How to Use Hebrew in Hand 2.0

Top Level Catalog
Hebrew in Hand starts by displaying a tree-structured catalog of available texts.
Use the thumbwheel (or trackball) to change the highlighted row.
The “+” symbol on a row indicates a category of texts.
Press the space key or select “Expand” from the menu to expand a
category to see its texts and sub-categories.
Select “Update” from the menu to download the latest catalog. |

Expanded Catalog
Open a text by highlighting it and pressing the space key or selecting “Open”
from the menu.
Hebrew in Hand will download the text (if necessary) and display it.
Texts that are already downloaded are shown in bold.
Use the menu to remove downloads and free up storage.
The Welcome text (downloaded with the software) has
a short how-to-use section. |

Title Bar
When a text is opened, its title appears in a title bar at the top of a screen.
The title bar also displays a progress indicator that advances as the text is formatted
for display.
In this screen shot, the progress indicator is the small gold area at the top left of the screen. |

Incremental Text Display
Text is displayed incrementally as soon as it is formatted.
The progress bar shows what proportion of the text has been formatted. |

Fully Formatted Text
This screen shot shows the Welcome message, including some fully pointed Hebrew text.
The progress bar goes away once formatting is complete.Press escape or select “Close” from the menu to return to the catalog screen. |

Structured Text
In Hebrew in Hand 2.0, sections of text can be summarized in short header sections,
with the rest of the text initially hidden.
This feature makes it easier to scroll through long texts. |

Expanded Text Section
Expand a section header by selecting it (so it displays with a blue border)
and then pressing the space key or selecting “Expand”
from the menu. The previously hidden text is displayed below the header and is
set off with a border and light gray background.
Collapse the section header by selecting it and then pressing the space key again or selecting
“Collapse” from the menu. |

Scroll Indicators
A scroll bar appears when scrolling, but then quickly fades away to leave a clean,
uncluttered view of the text.
In this screen shot, the text fades at the top and bottom of the screen.
This indicates that you can scroll in each direction to see more text. |

Proper Scroll Bar Placement
The scroll bar appears on the trailing side of the text, whether the text flows left-to-right
or right-to-left. |

“Jump to” Function
A “Jump to” function
is available on the menu to go directly to preset places in longer texts.
The white area inside the gray shows the range of text currently on the screen and the
blue shows what will be visible after the jump.
To jump, use the trackwheel (or trackball) to highlight a preset and then
press the space or enter key or select “Go” from the menu.
To cancel the jump, press escape. |
